Would The Color Of A Non-cosmetic Tattoo Be Effected By Vitiligo?should He Not Get A Tattoo Due To Vitiligo?
my friend has vitiligo, but wants to get a tattoo to honor his native american heritage.does anyone know if the color of the ink would be affected in the case of his skin losing more pigment due to the needle of the tatto gun?he does not have any patches of skin discoloration near the desired laocation of the future tattoo. can anyone suggest something?
first let me say…I’m not a doctor.
from what I know, I’d say there would be no problem getting a tattoo nor would it fade due to his condition.
vitiligo is caused because the immune system attacks the pigment cells, called melanocytes, so they can no longer produce Melanin, the actual skin pigment.the ink is not made of cells that can be attacked, so it shouldn’t affect the pigmented inks at all.
actually I’d think if the skin looses its pigment there, the color would get brighter, without a skin color behind it. but that’s just a guess.
