I am most likely going to get a young ball python from a reptile expo next month for my birthday. I am still trying to convince my mother, though.
Her argument is that we already have too many animals (we have five birds, all of which are hers, and a hermit crab and a dog), and she is worried that it will get out. I said I will get a big vivarium with a clamp-on lid, but she still says she just does not like them. The snake will always be in my room (which is in the back of the house) and she will never have to see it. How do I convince her that they ARE good pets?
And I have a question about food. How will I know when to move up to the next sized prey? For example: I’m starting out on pinkies, when will I know to start giving a fuzzie? And how will I know if it is still hungry? I do not want to over-feed and have an obese snake. I’m just confused on the whole food size thing.
POLL: Two snakes or one?

Spotted a flea on my cat and made the mistake of using Sergeant’s Silver to treat him. I’d gotten the spray when he was a kitten and had no idea of the hazards. It didn’t kill any fleas, but did give him minor organophosphate poisoning. This went away, but I can’t use Advantage until the 14th (or Frontline until the 18th) because the chemicals won’t have left his system until then, according to my vet.
In the meantime I’ve done some intensive cleaning and vacuuming and sprinkled Boric salt over the floor, which seems to be a recommendation of others who’ve dealt with fleas. I have company coming to stay from out-of-state on the 15th, and I’d like to keep the flea situation as painless as possible until I give the kitty Advantage, not only for our sanity but to make wiping the rest out with Advantage a bit easier when I can finally give it to him.
I put the Boric salt down last night and gave the cat a bath with Dawn soap. He’s pretty well-behaved during a bath, so it wasn’t a big deal. Still, I can tell the fleas have multiplied after the first time I spotted one on him, about six days ago. I’ve caught two on me and found a couple on him even after the bath, during which I managed to catch and drown about six.
I’m not asking for information about topical remedies or pesticides, or about the necessity of bathing my cat. All I want to know is HOW OFTEN CAN I??? Just until I can get the Frontline on him. Once daily? Every other day? Twice a week???
Additional comments about flea-nixing tricks would be appreciated. Please, only ones you’ve tried and found successful.
Especially looking for feedback from vets!
