June 2009 Chem Regents: Which Substance Has Multiple Covalent Bonds?

i just took it this morning and was really stumped on this question. i saved all my multiple choice answers in my calc, so ill know what i got when the answer key comes out, but i’m really eager to find out what the correct answer is for this one.

  1. nitrogen! it forms triple bonds in a diatomic molecule
    THE CHOICES WERE
    nitrogren, flourine, hydrogen, and oxygen
    i believe.

  2. As a ‘multiple choice’ question, what options were you given?
Without knowing this, the answer could be anything:
Oxygen can form multiple covalent bonds as in carbon dioxide, O=C=0
Nitrogen can form multiple covalent bonds as in hydrogen cyanide, H-C≡N or nitrogen, N≡N
Carbon can form multiple covalent bonds as in acetylene, H-C≡C-H or ethane, CH2=CH2
    ETC ETC ETC

  3. Which substance has multiple covalent bonds?
    What were the choices, dude?
Single elements that can form multiple covalent bonds are Nitrogen, Carbon, Oxygen, and Phosphorous.
Substances that can form multiple covalent bonds are nearly endless.

  4. it is definitely nitrogen.
all of the answers were diatomic, but the other 3 answers only make single bonds.

  5. i think its nitrogen since it has a triple bond with it self

  6. oh noooo
    i said hydrogen
    so did my friend =/
