Fortunately, you’ve got it in mass terms. This is a simple one. one Kg of
9.0 % to 9 Kg of water gives 0.9% saline.
.1 x 9% + .9 x 0% = 1 x 0.9%
Do your % by mass.
Step One
=======
Start with what you want.
0.900 % of the solution means that 0.900% of the solution is salt.
100% of the solution = 10 kg
0.900% of the solution = x
100x = 10*0.900
100x = 9
x = 9/100
x = 0.09 kg
Step Two
=======
Find out how much of the 9% saline solution you will use of the 9% starting solution.
9% *x = 0.09 kg
x = 0.09//9/100
x = 0.01*100 = 1 kg
Comment
=======
What this is telling you to do is to take 1 kg of the 9% solution and to that add 9 kg of water to the 1 kg.
Does this not make sense to you? The %’s are related by a 10 to 1 ratio.
