What Is The Best Way To Reattatch The The Cloth Lining On The Top Of The Inside Of A Car?

The cloth lining in my 1998 Nissan Sentra is coming loose from where it joins the windshield and is hanging down. What is the best way to reattatch the lining? Is there a specific type of glue or adhesive that works best?

  1. It can easily be put back up with a spray on contact cement. It can be purchased in virtually any craft or most hardware stores. Be sure to mask off any areas you do not want the gule to stick to. It will take you longer to mask off and protect the areas (winshield and dash) than the few minutes it will take to spray the glue and stick the headliner back on.

  2. Your auto parts store will have a spray adhesive that is used specifically for upholstery in cars…it’s only like $10 a can and works really well…jsut don’t put it on in 90 degree heat…do it when it’s a bit cooler so it can set up. I used in on my 1970 Mustang Fastback and it worked great!

  4. they make a spray adhesive that works great, just go to Shuck’s or any auto parts place, or even a craft store, and get a can of spray adhesive, hold the cloth down so you can spray the roof part, then press it smoothly back into place

  5. You can get 3m [brand] fabric adhesive for this,it is in a spray can,at most auto parts stores, you will need to pull down a little more,so you can apply to roof {inside} and headliner, surfaces need to be clean, and have windows open{this stuff is potent smelling}mask off windshield with newspaper & masking tape,as, overspray is a pain in the butt to get off.If you do get on windshield, wait til it is completely dry,and use a single edge razor blade to scrape off.take your time and follow directions on can,and it should come out ok.I used this on my lincoln for the same problem and it worked great.Good Luck!

  6. there is spray glue for that but it never seems to work .. take to a shop that does headliners and have them fix it correctly

  7. Good question; I have same problem with a different car and would like the answer too; so I’ll be watching for it.
edit: After reading the few answers, I just wondered if Mod Podge would work. It is an excellent glue/finish used in crafts. I used it as a glue/finish on many fabrics as well as paper and it does not come undone; it can be found in craft stores. Maybe????????

  8. The reason your headliner is falling ,is because heat and time have rotted the rubberfoam that the fabric is attached to. If you reglue , it will probably come loose again. the replacement headliner material is cheap and most fleamarkets have someone doing them for $75 or so. if not be real getto and take about a hundred color tipped straight pins and push them into the foam . it will hold and look really unique.

  9. Headliner adhesive. Its a spray you can find at auto parts stores. or herehttp://www.stockinteriors.com/headlinera…

  10. It has taken me a number of attempts with my VW blue velour headliner. I have found that a watered down version of water based contact cement will work provided you put it on lightly(don’t soak the material in it). Experiment with other cloth on a different but similiar surface as a testing board. The glue is white when wet but dries near clear. You don’t need much. Have not found a good headliner glue elsewhere.
